Berea, KY – The Berea College Mountaineers are excited to announce Rubem Rodriguez as the new head coach for the men's and women's soccer teams. Coach Rodriguez has served as the assistant for Berea for the past two seasons.
Athletic Director Mark Cartmill stated "We are excited to have Rubem join our coaching staff as we move forward into the NCAA Division III and the USA South Conference. He has done a great job as an assistant coach for the past two seasons and we look forward to watching the continued growth of our programs under Rubem."
Before joining Berea in 2014 Rubem coached with the Kentucky Youth Soccer Olympic Development Programs (ODP) as well as the Madison United Soccer Association (MUSA). He has also earned his United States Soccer Federation "D" coaching license as wells as an Advanced National Diploma with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
When asked about taking over the helm for the Berea Soccer programs, Rodriguez stated "I am looking forward to the upcoming season and am excited to help continue to build on the previous success of both teams. We have a great group returning from last year's teams as well as some very talented freshman coming in, I look forward to seeing what the future holds for both programs."
Rubem is a native of Sao Paulo, Brazil. He came to the United States in 2011 as a student-athlete at the University of the Cumberlands. As a soccer player at Cumberlands Rubem served as a starter all three seasons he played. He graduated in 2014 with a bachelor's degree in Sports Management and a minor in Exercise Science.
Rubem will also serve as the Strength and Conditioning coach for the Berea College athletic department. He holds a Strength and Conditioning Certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
Rubem and his wife Kendra reside in Berea, KY and are expecting their first born, Mia Grace, November 9th, 2016.
Also, joining the Berea College soccer coaching staff is Laurie Jakubowski. Laurie will serve as the assistant coach for the men's and women's teams. Laurie served as the assistant coach for the Berea women's team from 2009-2011 and was a member of the Berea women's soccer team from 2002-2003.
