Berea College Leads Director's Cup Race Mid-Way Through 2015-16

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – With the winter season is in full swing, the Berea College Mountaineers hold the top spot in the USCAA 2015-16 Director’s Cup standings with 412 points. The Mountaineers fall season consisted of National Championships in men’s and women’s cross country and top ten finishes in volleyball and golf.

Trailing Berea for the top spot is SUNY-ESF with 370.5 points. The Mighty Oaks’ cross country team’s finished second (men) and third (women) at the USCAA Cross Country National Championships in November. To complete another outstanding fall season, the SUNY-ESF women’s soccer team made it to the semi-finals of the USCAA Soccer National Championships.

Florida College sits in third place in the Director’s Cup standings with 341.5 points, after winning their second straight USCAA Volleyball National Championship. The powerhouse program has captured eight of the last ten titles. The Falcon’s men’s soccer team made its way back to the Soccer National Championship during the fall, eventually falling in the semi-finals to eventual champion University of Maine-Fort Kent.

The fourth and fifth spot in the standings are separated by just a single point. SUNY-Delhi is fourth with 335.5 followed by Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences with 334.5 points. The Broncos from SUNY Delhi finished third in the Men’s Cross Country National Championship while ACPHS was a finalist in the Women’s Soccer National Championship.

Director’s Cup points are awarded for number of sport offerings, attendance at the USCAA National Convention, and results from USCAA National Championship events.
