BEREA, KY- The Mountaineers took one game out of three against the Hiwassee Tigers this weekend, losing the first two games by scores of 9-0, 4-1, and winning the third game by a score of 5-2.
Berea couldn't quite get off to a good offensive start against the Tigers, only scoring one run over the first two games of the series. Chad Brown was on the mound for Berea, and gave up nine runs through six and one third innings, with six of them being earned. Nate Metz came in and pitched the final two thirds of the 7th inning, shutting the Tigers down, and letting the beating end at 9-0. Logan Hunt and Devin Belleville both had 1-2 games with one walk each.
Game two was better on the pitching side for Berea, but not for the bats. The offense, again, couldn't support their starting pitcher in Lance Shelton, who gave up three earned runs, pitching the entire seven innings. Tyler Plageman had a great game, however, going 3-4 with a triple.
Sunday's game was successful for Berea, as they were able to get five runs to support Matt Wilburn, Nolan Sanders, and Chase O'Connor. Wilburn went a strong 6 innings, giving up only two runs. Sanders and O'Connor shut the door with Sanders going 2 innings and O'Connor getting the save with a 1-2-3 9th inning. Evan Hackney extended the lead in the 7th inning with a two run bomb, making the score 5-2, which ended up the final score for the third and final contest of the series.
