Abbie Darst has served as Berea’s Head Cheerleading coach since Aug. 2015. It is the mission of the Berea College Cheerleading Program to uphold the pride and tradition of the school. As a team, we consistently work hard, practice and perform with heart, dedicate ourselves to this program and, above all, have fun. The Berea College Cheerleading Program is not built on one person, but on the team as a whole.
As coach, Abbie strives to instill tradition, honor, commitment, and pride in her team and in each individual to reach squad goals. She works hard to be organized, consistent and supportive to make this an exemplary program.
Abbie is a Berea College grad, Class of 2003. She holds a bachelor's degree in English writing and a minor in Communication. Abbie cheered for four years at Berea College and at Louisville Male High School, where she won two NCA National Cheerleading titles. She worked a summer on the National Cheerleading Association staff, teaching cheer camps and also worked at two local Kentucky newspapers as a sports editor and sports writer. Her passion and enthusiasm for cheerleading and sports in general runs deep.
Abbie is the director of publications and media relations at Berea College, and she also manages her own small business. Abbie is a Christian wife and mother of three kids, and she is married to Scott Darst, a 2002 Berea grad.
