#2 Mountaineers Dismantle Indiana-Kokomo 99-58

Earlier on Friday the USCAA's latest Division I Top-20 Coaches Poll was released, and the Mountaineers maintained their #2 ranking.  When BC and the Cougars of Indiana University – Kokomo played back in December, the Mountaineers had to withstand a barrage of Cougar 3-pointers to escape with a win.  That "more of the same" would be the theme early tonight, when the two teams met on the Roland Wierwille Court in Berea.

The Cougars would come out bombing away jumping out to a quick five point lead which they would maintain through the first five minutes of the contest.  Then the "workhorses", as Coach John Hemenway calls them, kicked the team into overdrive.  Dominique Garmon would start it off with a take-away which he dished to Richard Parker who drained a three.  Parker would get the ball on the next offensive position and drain another three.  Garmon put away a pass from Seth Beckham on the following position; then scored again unassisted.  Garmon would then give the ball back to Parker for another basket to end a run that would leave the halftime score at 43-32 Berea.

In the second half, Berea came out gunning and seemed that they didn't miss a shot.   IUK was on the ropes when two possessions sealed their fate.  At the 10:10 mark, Parker hit another of five three pointers; which was then followed by a Beckham steal and slam.  It was only five points, but the game was over.

Berea College was able to dictate the pace of the game and use their bench depth to push the Cougars well past the physical breaking point.  The defining moment came late in the contest when Daishon Robinson put up a 3-pointer from the corner, it was a miss but what would follow would bring the large partisan crowd to their feet for several minutes.   Ethan Harris, making his first career start, would come charging from the high post, grab Robinson's miss and slam the ball home for two of his season high eight points.

Berea was led by Parker who dropped in 23 points going 9 for 12 from the floor including five 3-pointers.  Robinson would score 19 points; while Garmon scored 14.  Aaron Ponder scored 11 points and recorded a team high five assists; while Beckham scored 10 and had a team high nine rebounds.

The Mountaineers will be back in action tomorrow when they head north to take on Wilberforce University at 3:00 pm.   They return to Berea on Wednesday, February 11 for a 7:00 pm match-up with University of Cincinnati – Clermont.
