The 2014-2015 basketball season has proven to be a fruitful one for the #2 USCAA ranked Berea College's men's basketball team. The team coached by John Hemenway and assistant coach Rudy Evans will fight for a National Championship at the 2015 USCAA Basketball National Championships in Uniontown, PA.
Coach John Hemenway had plenty to say about this upcoming tournament and his expectations for the team: "We are very excited to be competing in the USCAA National Championships. To have the kind of year that we have had and be rewarded by getting the chance to play for a national title is incredible for our basketball program."
The tournament includes a skills competition at Penn State Fayette on Tuesday, March 3rd along with a Championship and All-American Banquet at the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort. The Skills Competition will be held at Penn State-Fayette and will feature a "hot shot" shooting contest (women only), three-point shooting contest (men and women), and a slam dunk contest (men only). The tournament play will begin on Wednesday, March 4th with the championship game on Saturday, March 7th.
The Mountaineers are seeded 2nd and will play on Wednesday at 5:00 pm versus Iowa Wesleyan, who comes in as the 7th seed in the bottom half of the bracket. The full bracket can be found HERE
With this year's selection, Berea marks the first time the men's basketball team has been invited to the national championship tournament since attending the NAIA championships during the 1998-1999 season.
