Danville, KY - The Berea College men's Basketball team took on Centre College this past Wednesday night. The Mountaineers fell short 66-80 dropping their record to 2-3 on the year.
In the first half Centre got out fast and took a early 8-0 lead on the Mountaineers. Berea fought their way back and got to within three with 9:25 left in the first half. Shortly after, Centre went on a 16-6 run keyed by two three-pointers and took a 36-24 lead with only 3:49 left in the half. The Mountaineers once again fought their way back and went on a 6-0 run of their own to cut the lead to only six with 37 seconds left in the first half. Centre would score one more basket giving them a 44-36 point advantage going into the half.
Berea was lead in the first half by freshman guard Steven Butts who had 9 points. Anthony Myrks added 7 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals in the first half.
In the second half Centre held an eight point advantage before going on a 13-4 run. This would give the Colonels their largest lead of the night at 15 points (62-47) with just under nine minutes to play in the game.
The Mountaineers responded with a 13-5 run to get back within seven with 3:59 to play. Centre would outscore the Mountaineers 13-6 for the remainder of the game and grab their third consecutive win defeating the Mountaineers by a score of 80-66.
Anthony Myrks would record a double double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Myrks also recorded 5 assists and 2 steals on the night. Richard Parker led the Mountaineers in points with 16.
The Mountaineers return home on Sunday, November 29th where they take on NCAA DIII opponent Wilmington College. Tip off is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
