Wilmore, KY - The Berea College men's basketball team opened up day one of the Asbury Classic Basketball tournament today against the Bulldogs of Fisk University. The Mountaineers ended day one of the tournament with a 88-73 win against the Bulldogs.
Berea came out ready to play in the first half scoring the first 8 points of the game. A three point shot made by Anthony Myrks with eleven minutes to go in the first half put the Mountaineers up 27-6. The Mountaineers continued to hit shots and with six minutes left in the first half they extended their lead to thirty. By the end of the first half the Mountaineer's thirty point lead was cut to seventeen leaving the score 48-31 going into the half.
The Mountaineers continued to shoot the ball well and less than a minute into the second half Myrks hit another three point shot to increase the Mountaineers lead to twenty. Berea would hold their lead and grab the 88-73 win over the Bulldogs.
A total of five Mountaineers scored in double digits. Garmon led the team with 16, Myrks had 15, Seth Beckham had 13, Richard Parker had 11 and Stephen Butts ended with 10. Gabe Hinton lead the Mountaineers under the glass pulling down 12 rebounds.
The Mountaineers will be back in action in the Asbury Classic on December 5th at 2:00 PM. They will be taking on the Redhawks of Indiana University Northwest.
