Birmingham, AL - The second game of the Classic was against the host school Birmingham Southern College Panthers. After Berea scored the first basket of the game, the match up turned into a game of runs. With a 2-0 lead to begin the game, the Mountaineers found themselves trailing 15-4 at the 15:03 mark caused by a 15-2 run by the Panthers. Berea scored the next five points, getting the lead down to six points on a Richard Parker three point basket, but Birmingham Southern pushed their lead out to double digits again, taking a 19 point lead at the 3:51 mark, 44-25. But the Mountaineers only went into the half trailing by 10 as they used a 12-3 run at the end of the half to make the score 47-37. Myrks led Berea in points in the first half with 16 points, 13 of which came from the charity stripe.
The runs continued for each team in the second half as Birmingham Southern used a 14-5 run to push their lead back out to 19 at the 16:27 mark, making the score 61-42. Berea responded with their own run of 20-4, which included scoring 14 straight points, to cut the Panthers lead to three, 65-62. The Panthers pushed their advantage out to 10 points, but the Mountaineers pulled another rally and cut the deficit in half, trailing 78-73 with 2:18 remaining in the game. Berea was unable to complete their comeback attempt as the Panthers held on for the 86-73 victory. Myrks led three double digit scorers with 17, along with Garmon's 16 and Parker's 13. The team leader in rebounds was Ethan Harris with 11, while Garmon and Myrks tied for team lead in assists with four each and Garmon led the team in steals again with four.
With their 1-1 finish at the Black Tie Classic, the Mountaineers move to 7-5 on the season. The team gets an extended break as they are not due to return to the court until Saturday January 9th, 2016. Berea will host Ohio Mid-Western College, a team they defeated earlier in the season 97-59, at 2:00 PM.
