Madisonville, TN- Berea returned to the road with a three game winning game intact tonight, this time facing Hiwasse College on their home court in Madisonville, TN. Berea faced Hiwasse back in January and defeated them 83-75, hoping to do the same on this occasion.
Much like the first match up between the two teams, the first half was a close half. In the first game between the two teams, Hiwasse led the Mountaineers going into halftime, but tonight the fortunes were reversed as the Mountaineers went into the locker room leading by three, 36-33.
Unlike the original contest between the two back in January where Hiwasse kept it close for most of the game before Berea added some separation, the Mountaineers ran away with the game tonight in the second half. The defense picked up for Berea in the second half as the team held Hiwasse to just 29 points while adding 51 of their own, to pick up the win 87-62.
Anthony Myrks came just short of finishing with a triple-double, as he finished with 28 points, including going a perfect 3-3 from behind the arc and 11-11 from the charity stripe, tied for team high in rebounds with eight and nine assists. Adding to the scoring efforts for Berea was Corey Wise and Richard Parker with 23 and 19, respectively. Ethan Harris finished tied for the team high in rebounds along with Myrks at eight.
The win moves the team's record to 15-7 and extends the winning streak to four straight as we move to just under two weeks from bid day. The Mountaineers return to the court when they host Johnson University for Senior Day on Saturday, February 13th. The game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM on the Roland Wierwille Court at the Seabury Center Arena.
