Berea, KY – The Berea College men's soccer team played against Boyce College's team this past Tuesday (Sept. 8). The Mountaineers grabbed another home win with a score of 6-1 and increased their record to 3-2-0.
This game started out exciting and got fans on their feet early, three minutes into the first half Boyce College's Jorge Saucedo (10) went in for a solo shot and scored the game's first goal. Not even a minute after the first goal the mountaineers had an answer and evened the score when Issac Domenech (13) assisted Million Beshah's (10) with a goal that would tie the game 1-1. The game continued on for about twenty minutes before the Mountaineers took it over and scored the second goal at 22:56 by Berea College's Jesse Massucco (3) and the assist of Rafael Mendoza (8). Soon after Mendoza (8) again got the assist on Berea's third goal at 20:12 when Josiah MacMillan placed a beatuiful shot that would find the back of the net. The fourth and final goal of the first half came from Henok Kebede (4) at 8:42 leaving the score at half 1-4, Berea.
Boyce College attempted to get back into the game, but they were unsuccessful at relinquishing the ball from Berea who kept the game near Boyce's goal keeper. The first goal of the second half came from Brad Carmenisch (17) when he received a pass from Jesse Massucco (3) in the 58th minute. The last and final score was at 49:48 by Pedro Herrara (11) and the assist of Caleb Congrove (2). This concluded the final score at 1-6.
Berea outshot Boyce College 29-9 and challenged Boyce's goalie with 16 direct shots.
The Berea Mountaineers will be at it again when they compete in the Wilmington Kiwanis Classic located in Wilmington, OH where they will go against Wittenberg University and Tennessee's Maryville College on a two day event on Saturday the 12th and Sunday the 13th of September.
