Mountaineers End Road Trip With a Loss and Tie

The Berea College men's soccer team is coming back from their road trip against future USA South opponents LaGrange College and Huntington College with a 1-0 setback and a 2-2 tie.

The Mountaineers went up against LeGrange in a game that was all about defense as both teams only took a total of eight shots in the first half. Both teams held strong until Errick Sturm of LaGrange scored the games first and only goal in the 31st minute.

The rest of the game was one dominated by tough defense and chippy play as evidenced by the 11 combined fouls in the second period.

In the Mountaineers second game of the weekend they traveled to Montgomery, Alabama to face Huntingdon. This game followed the trend of the weekend as both teams were hungry for the win in tallying up 21 fouls a piece in the 2OT game.

Berea and Huntingdon would exchange goals to open the game with Huntington's Bo Jenkins scoring in the 5th minutes and Berea's Westley Saintilnord scoring in the 6th. Huntingdon would score the periods only other goal in the first in the 15th minute as Mac Puller scored a goal on the assist by Jean Jocelyn.

In the second period Berea scored in the 63rd minute on a penalty kick by Garrison Wagner. The game would go on to 2 overtimes with either team failing to score, leading to a 2-2 draw.

The Mountaineers now 0-4-1 will travel to Lexington Friday night to face NAIA member Asbury at 8:00 PM.
