Danville, VA- After playing a non-conference game at the Berea College Sports Complex, the men's soccer team returned to the road to for a conference game. The team took on the Averett University Cougars of the USA South East division.
Berea saw themselves fall behind quickly as a goal in the third minute gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead. The search for the equalizer by the Mountaineers with shots from Issac Domenech and Issac Mendoza would not come as Averett scored a second goal to move ahead 2-0. Two more shots from Pedro Herrera along with a corner kick from Mendoza did not produce a goal for Berea as the team went into the halftime intermission trailing 4-0.
The shots continued to flow for the Mountaineers in the second half but none were going in the back of the net. The scoreboard changed in favor of the Cougars in the 50th minute as Averett took a 5-0 lead. Berea would be unable to rally back from the deficit and fall by a final score of 5-0. Noah DeHart started in the net for the Mountaineers and had six saves while in relief Nicholas Knoster had two saves on 13 shots on goal. Dakota Massucco, Domenech and Herrea each finished the game with three shots to go along with one shot each from Mendoza and Dorian Del Toro for a total of 12 shots.
The conference road trip continues as the Mountaineers will stay in the state of Virginia as they travel to the city of Ferrum.
