Montgomery, AL- After close to week off from game action, the men's soccer team returned to the pitch this afternoon as they began a two-day road trip. The games feature two West division opponents from the USA South conference, with the first game coming against the Huntingdon College Hawks.
The race to take the first stab at a goal was won by Berea as Sharman Sugumaran got a shot off in the first minute of the game, which was saved by the opposing keeper. A second shot by Jacob McCowan went high before the first goal of the game was scored by Huntingdon, giving them a 1-0 lead. A corner kick by Dorian Del Toro came up short as the Mountaineers tried to cut the 2-0 Hawks lead in half. As the first half clock was winding down, Issac Domenech and Del Toro took two shots which were saved by the goalie, causing Berea to go into the intermission trailing 3-0.
Berea's offense went cold to open the second half as the Hawks added two more goals to their lead. Two shots each by Pedro Herrera and Domenech fell short of going into the back of the net and the Mountaineers went on to fall by a final score of 8-0. Domenech finished with three shots in the game to go along with two shots from Herrea and a shot each from McCowan, Del Toro and Sharman. Noah DeHart started the game in the net for the Blue Crew, making six saves on nine shots before being relieved by Nicholas Knoster, who finished the game with one save.
Berea concludes their two-day road trip in Georgia as they travel to play LaGrange College in the city of the LaGrange tomorrow. First touch for the tilt between the two teams is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
