Berea, KY- After two games on the road, the men's soccer team returned to the Berea College Sports Complex to play in their final home game of the season. The team dipped out of conference play for the finale, playing host to the Centre College Colonels.
The offense of the Mountaineers was held in check in the opening minutes of the first half as the Centre offense took multiple shots but was kept out of the net to the credit of goalkeeper Noah DeHart and the Berea defense. Issac Domenech took the first stab at scoring a goal for the home team, which went high, before another attempt to put the first goal on board by Dorian Del Toro was saved by the opposing keeper. The defensive showdown between the two teams continued through the remainder of the half as the teams went into the intermission tied 0-0.
The struggle to put goals on the board ended in the beginning segments of the second half, as the Colonels scored the first goal of the game three minutes into the half to lead 1-0. The home Mountaineers were unable to find the equalizing goal before Centre took a 2-0 lead a couple of minutes after their first goal. Berea's offense was unable to turn their possessions into scoring chances in the second half and went on to fall 4-0.
Domenech and Del Toro finished as the only two Mountaineers who attempted shots in the game. DeHart, who started and finished the game in the net, completed the game with nine saves on 13 shots on goal.
Berea returns to the road for their final two games of the season, which are both USA South conference games. The first of the two games comes on Saturday against another newcomer to the USA South, Pfeiffer University from the East division. Pfeiffer, like Brevard College, is transitioning from NCAA Division II to Division III and their games against conference opponents will not count towards either team's conference record.
