Berea, KY- The Berea men's soccer team had their home conference opener Wednesday night against Covenant College. The Mountaineers took the loss with a 6-2 score. Issac Mendoza and Junior Gyamfi both scored for Berea and Mountaineer goalie Clay Sheaffer finished the game with five saves.

During the first 45 minutes, Berea struggled to keep the ball out of their own zone, which resulted in two quick goals from the Scots. Covenant added another goal at the 33:30 minute mark for a 3-0 score that carried over as the team's headed into halftime.

The Scots wasted no time getting their fourth goal just 34 seconds into the second half, but the Mountaineers' offense answered. At the 50:23 mark, Mendoza scored for Berea's first goal of the night and shortly after Gyamfi tacked on another one six minutes later to help to close the scoring gap. Covenant answered again with their fifth goal of the contest at 65:19 and the Scots' final goal found the back of the net at 86:47 to close out their 6-2 victory.

Covenant finished with 17 shots to the Mountaineers' seven, and held a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Up next, the Mountaineers will take on Huntingdon College Saturday at the Berea sports complex at 4:30 p.m.
