Anderson, IN - The Berea College men's indoor track and field team took the track at the Anderson University Invitational on February 6th. The meet was made up of mostly NCAA Division III schools as well as a few NAIA schools. The Mountaineers finished 4th with a team score of 52 points.
The meet started off with the Mountaineers finishing 3rd in 4x200m relay, the team was made up of Issac Domenech, Wesley Saintilnord, Aaron Effoe and Wynn-Jones Mbwambo. Freshman Dave Bell lead the Mountaineers in the field events finishing 4th in the long jump. Later, Bell took to the track and finished 7th in the 400m. Domenech and Saintilnord had a impressive showing in the 200m finishing 7th and 8th in a field of 42.
On the distance side Emmanuel Kemei unleashed a huge kick in the mile to finish in 2nd. Tanner Carson, Casey Monti and Kyle Young finished close behind Kemei in 8th, 9th and 10th in the field of 24. Carson came back later in the 800m and took 2nd place running a impressive time of 2:00.68. That race was the first time Carson had ever ran the 800m on the track. Berea Continued to shine in the distance events with Isaiah Dodson and Jeremy Johnson finishing 1st and 2nd in the 3000m run, Dodson ran 8:58 in his 3k debut.
The meet concluded with a great 4x400m relay race between Berea and Anderson. The Mountaineer squad was made up of Domenech, Bell, Kemei and Freshman Caleb Flege. Berea ran step for step with Anderson, Goshen and Albion through three legs. Kemei received the baton just behind Anderson and down the last straight they were running stride for stride. Anderson just edged Berea at the line for the win running 3:31.75 compared to Berea's 3:31.84.
The Mounaineers travel back to the University of Indianapolis on Febuary 13th to compete in the Tom Hathaway Invitaional. The meet is set to start at 12:30pm.
