ANDERSON, IN- The Berea College men's track and field team traveled to Anderson, Indiana for the Fred Wilt Memorial Invitational this past Saturday to bring a close to their indoor season. The men went out with a bang- earning a multitude of PRs and placing 5th overall out of 17 teams.
Starting with the 60m, WynnJones Mbwambo placed 12th out of 49 competitors with a time of 7.38. Anthony Boateng was shortly behind him with a PR of 7.45. Boubacar Cherif also ran a PR with a time of 7.81, followed by teammate Nicholas Detore who ran a PR of 8.18.
Continuing the success, senior Wesley Santilnord brought home 5th place in the 200m with a time of 23.77. He was followed by Issac Domenech who placed 13th out of 50 competitors. WynnJones followed Domenech with a PR of 24.49. Aaron Effoe and Anthony Boateng also PRed with times of 24.54 and 25.17. Domenech then earned his PR for the night in the 400m with a time of 52.82. Teammate Dave Bell also PRed with a time of 53.8.
The mid-distance squad came in speedy, earning more PRs. Tanner Carson broke the 2 minute barrier in the 800m with a first place finish and time of 1:58.78. Corbin Flege then earned a PR in the 1k with a time of 2:41.63, finishing 2nd. Junior Casey Monti continued the PR trend in the indoor mile with a time of 4:41.53, earning 6th place. Kyle Young followed after with a time of 4:47.02. Teammate Jerrod Arnold also earned a PR in the mile with a time of 4:52.85.
The distance crew hit the track with heat as well. Isaiah Dodson brought home a huge PR and 4th place in the 3k with a time of 8:43.25. Jeremy Johnson came in shortly after him with an 8th place finish. Nathan Smith also brought home a PR in the 3k with a time of 9:56.04. Dylan Watkins finished up the distance crew's success with a PR and a 5th place finish in the 5k with a time of 15:57.67, this was Watkins first time under the 16:00 minute barrier.
The 4x200m team made up of Issac Domenech, WynnJones Mbwambo, Aaron Effoe, and Wesley Santilnord placed 2nd with a time of 1:35.14. The men's 4x400 team, made up of Dave Bell, Issac Domenech, Corbin Flege, and Tanner Carson, also placed 2nd with a time of 3:31.97.
The success of the men's team continued on the field as well. Jeremy Wilde brought home a PR vaulting a height of 3.5m. Dave Bell placed 3rd in the long jump with a distance of 6.36m. Teammate Nicholas Detore also PRed in the long jump with a distance of 4.97m. Aaron Lange then threw a PR of 9.17m in the shot put.
The Berea College men's track and field team brought home great success to end the indoor season. Look forward to even more success in the outdoor season beginning with a trip to Atlanta, Georgia for the Emory Invitational on March 18th and 19th.
