Franklin, IN- The tour of Indiana continued today as the softball team traveled to Franklin, IN to take on the Franklin College Grizzlies. The teams faced each other just five days ago at the Berea College Sports Complex, and the Mountaineers came in today hoping for different results than their previous match ups.
Franklin College opened the first game of the doubleheader scoring five runs in the first three innings, while Berea totaled two hits over the same amount of time. The offense, which was held to just three hits for the game, continued to struggle as the Grizzlies added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take the first game of the series 8-0 in five innings.
Lillian Setters, Morgan McClure and Taylor Flowers each recorded a hit for the Mountaineers. Katelyn Blair was on the mound for Berea, going the distance while giving up nine hits, five earned runs, striking out one batter and walking two.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Berea struck on the scoreboard first. Hannah Carter singled and eventually made her way to third base. McClure's RBI single brought Carter in for the first run of the game and gave the Mountaineers a 1-0 at the end of the first inning. Berea held their advantage until the bottom of the fourth inning, when Franklin College had three runs cross the plate to change the lead in their favor 3-1.
Carter scored her second run of the game on an error by the Grizzlies infield, cutting the lead to just a single run, 3-2. The momentum changed in favor of Franklin College though, as they scored seven runs over the last two innings to win the game 10-2 in six innings.
Berea finished the game with four hits coming from Setters, Carter, Kourtney Parker and McClure. Flowers and Jacquelyn Howard pitched the game, allowing 15 hits and ten earned runs.
