Be it the long travel, the cold temperatures or the fact that their place in the 2015 USCAA Division I National Championships was already secured; the Berea College women's basketball team (13-9) didn't play up their #6 ranking on the road tonight versus #18 West Virginia Tech (13-14).
WV Tech jumped out quickly leading by as many as 11 points in the opening minutes of play. BC would battle back taking the lead 21-20 on a pair Adriana Williams free-throws at the midway point of the half. An Anna Loveless layup with 7:46 on the clock, would be the final Mountaineer basket until the closing seconds of the half. BC's defense kept the game from getting away, but WV Tech still held a 36-31 lead at intermission.
That would be a close as the Blue Crew would get, as their shooting went from bad to nightmarish in the second half. BC shot 9-35 (25.7%) and 0-9 from long distance in the second stanza. Alexus Calhoun led the way offensive for Berea with 12 points before fouling out with more than four minutes remaining on the clock.
Anna Loveless captured her first double-double of the season pulling down 10 rebounds and scoring 10 points; while Johnesha Warren scored in double figures (10 points) for the 20th time this season.
BC will have little time to recover - just like it will be at the National Championships - as they will play a total of three games in three days. Tomorrow night they will host Lindsey Wilson College at 5:00 pm in a rescheduled contest before heading south to Williamsburg to battle the University of the Cumberlands at 6:00 pm on Wednesday to close the regular season.
