North Manchester, IN - The Berea College women's basketball team took on Carroll (Wis.) University in day two of the Tipoff Classic hosted by Manchester University. Berea was able to grab the 69-62 win over the Pioneers bringing their record to 1-1 in the tournament.
Both teams came out ready to play in the first quarter but the Mountaineers took a two point advantage going into the second quarter. With the momentum on their side the Mountaineers out scored the Pioneers 22-15 in the second quarter to give them a 41-32 point lead going into the half. Adriana Williams led the Mountaineers in the first half with 18 points. Williams also added 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals to her first half stats.
In the 3rd quarter the Pioneers outscored the Mountaineers 19-13 to cut Berea's lead to only three points going into the 4th quarter. With eight minutes to go in the game Carroll hit a jumper to tie the game 54-54. Just when it looked like the momentum was on the side of the Pioneers Berea went on a 7-0 run. Carroll tried to put on a run of their own but it would not be enough as the Mountaineers outscored the Pioneers 8-2 down the stretch giving them a 69-62 point win.
Williams lead the Mountaineers with 25 points. Three other Mountaineers were able to score in the double digits, Erica Rogers (11 points), Zacchea Small (10 points) and Anna Loveless (10). Williams and Small also led the team in rebounds with eight apiece.
Adriana Williams was named to the All-Tournament team.
Berea will be back in action at home on Tuesday, November 24th when they take on the Transylvania Pioneers at 6:00 PM.
