Women's Basketball Drops Home Game to Taylor

Berea, KY - The Berea women's basketball team took the court today taking on the Trojans of Taylor University.  The Mountaineers fell short losing to the Trojans at home by a score of 70-53. This loss brings the Mountaineer's record to 2-4.

In the first quarter Berea put pressure on the ball early and forced several early turnovers that lead to a 9-3 lead with 6:18 left in the quarter.  Bethanie Williams hit a jump shot with 2:45 left in the quarter to put the Mountaineers up 17-10.  A free throw would be the last points for the Mountaineers in the first quarter as they went into the second quarter with a 18-13 lead over the Trojans.  

The Trojans responded quickly in the the start of the second quarter going on a 8-0 run that would give them a 21-20 lead with 6:19 left in the half.  The Trojans continued to hold the momentum in the second quarter and outscored the Mountaineers 21-8 to give them a 34-26 lead over Berea going into the half.  

The Mountaineers were lead in the first half by Adriana Williams with 10 points.  Williams also went 4-4 from the charity stripe in the first half.

The momentum stayed on the Trojans side and halfway through the third quarter their lead grew to eleven, 46-35.  Adriana Williams grabbed a steal and made a jump shot with 1:08 remaining in the quarter to bring the Mountaineers back within ten.  in the third quarter Tayor outscored Berea 21-17 and took a 55-43 lead goin into the final quarter of play.  

With 3:32 left in the game the Trojans would take their largest lead of the game going up 70-49.  Bethanie Williams hit a jumper with 2:35 left in the game to bring the score to 70-51.  A couple of made free throws by Zacchea Small would be the last points scored in the game bringing the final score to 70-53, Taylor.

Berea shot 29.2% for the game and went 4-15 from behind the arc compared to the 45.8% and 3-10 that Taylor shot.  

The Mountaineers were lead by Adriana Williams with 18 points.  Leading the Mountaineers under the glass was #2 Bethanie Williams with 6 and she also recorded 3 steals.  

The Mountaineers will be back in action at home on Tuesday, December 1st when they take on West Virginia University Institute of Technology.  Tip off is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
