New Albany, IN - The Berea College women's basketball team hit the road yesterday to take on the Grenadiers of Indiana University Southeast. The Mountaineers were able to win their third straight game defeating the Grenadiers 70-58.
The score travelled back and forth in the first quarter and with just two minutes left in the quarter Berea found themselves down 16-12. The Mountaineers finished the quarter with a 5-0 run to put them up 17-16 going into the second quarter.
Berea held a small lead the entire second quarter. Late in the quarter the Mountaineers went on a 11-0 run and extended their lead to fourteen with 2:36 left to go in the first half. Berea went on to outscore Indiana University Southeast 21-10 in the second quarter and went into the half with a 38-26 lead.
The Mountaineers started the third quarter off with back to back baskets increasing their lead to sixteen. Berea took their largest lead of the game when Erica Rogers found Anna Loveless in the paint for a two point shot to give the Mountaineers a nineteen point lead. By the end of the third quarter the Mountaineer's nineteen point lead was cut to ten.
The Grenadiers continued to try and get back into the game but each time the Mountaineers had an answer and by the end of the fourth quarter Berea was able to grab the 70-58 point win.
Bethanie Willaims lead the Mountaineers with 21 points. Williams shot a very impressive 5-8 from behind the arc and a perfect 6-6 from the charity stripe. Two other Mountaineers scored in the double digits with Adriana Willaims scoring 17 and Kelsey Tippitt with 13. Adriana also picked up 5 assists and 5 steals on the night.
The Mountaineers will be back in action on Friday, December 11th at 6:00 PM when they take on Cumberland University in the Union College Tournament in Barbourville, KY.
