Barbourville, KY - The Berea College women's basketball team took to the road to take on the Union College Bulldogs. The Mountaineers entered the game with a 5-5 record.
The Bulldogs took control of the game early with an 8-3 run. Berea would go on a run of their own with Kiley Barnard scoring five straight points to give the Mountaineers the lead with 2:48 left in the first quarter. The score went back and forth but by the end of the first quarter the Bulldogs had a 15-13 lead.
With 6:15 left in the half Adriana Williams hit a jump shot to give the Mountaineers a 24-19 lead. Shortly after the Bulldogs would go on a 10-2 run that would give them a three point lead with 23 seconds left in the half. Berea's Erica Rogers hit the last shot of the half to bring the Mountaineers within one point going into the half.
The Mountaineers came into the third quarter ready to play and quickly went on an 8-2 run to grab a 36-31 lead with 7:53 on the clock. The Bulldogs rallied back to pull within one, 40-39. A three point shot by Jamie Roberts and a pair of jumps shots by Anna Loveless would send the Mountaineers to the fourth quarter with a 47-42 point lead.
The Mountaineers opened up their lead to 53-42 early in the fourth quarter. Union would battle back and a 8-0 run would put them back within three with only 4:13 remaining in the game but that was as close as the Bulldogs would get. Roberts would connect on another three pointer to push the Mountaineers lead back to nine and Berea would hold on for the 63-57 win against the Bulldogs.
Adriana Williams lead the Bulldogs with 17 points and 4 assists. Erica Rogers ended the night with 14. Bethanie Williams lead the Mountaineers under the glass pulling down 8 rebounds.
The Mountaineers will be back in action on December 18th when they travel to Cincinnati, OH to take on Mount St. Joseph. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30pm.
