Wilmington, OH - The women's basketball team took the court for day two of the Fred Raizk Memorial Tournament hosted by Wilmington College. In their second game the Mountaineers took on Kenyon College. Berea stayed in the game for the first half but Kenyon pulled away in the second half to grab a 94-71 win.
The Mountaineers took their first lead of the game after a steal and fast break layup by Adriana Williams with 4:40 left in the first quarter. The lead would change several more times this quarter and with five seconds left Zacchea Small hit a layup to tie the score 16-16 heading into the second quarter. Berea struck first in the second quarter with two made free throws by Small and the Mountaineers regained a 18-16 lead. A 7-0 late run by Kenyon sent the Mountaineers into the locker room trailing 35-29.
A three point shot by Anna Loveless cut Kenyon's lead to only one with 8:07 left in the third quarter. Kenyon answered with a 8-0 run push their lead back out to nine, 48-39. Kenyon continued to hold the momentum and Berea headed into the final quarter down 68-52. The Mountaineers tried to find some momentum in the forth but Kenyon went on a 16-8 run in the final five minutes of the game to hand the Mountaineers a 91-74 loss.
Berea was lead by Adriana Williams who put up 20 points and 5 steals on the night. This put Williams ranked #4 in PPG and steals in tghe USCAA. Three other Mountaineers scored in the double digits with Bethanie Williams putting up 14, Anna Loveless with 13 and Jamie Roberts finishing with 12.
Berea will be back in action on the road on January 13th when they head to Batavia, OH to take on USCAA rival University of Cincinnati Clermont College. Tip off for the game is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
