Women's Basketball Dominates Saint Mary of the Woods College 98-64

Saint Mary of the Woods, IN- Berea College women's basketball returned to the court this afternoon on the road after achieving an 89-65 victory last night against Miami-Middletown University. Today's opponent was the #13 ranked Saint Mary of the Woods College Pomeroys of the USCAA.

Adriana Williams put the first points on the board, which started the back and forth affair between the teams, before Berea reached a five point lead. A three point basket by the Pomeroys cut Berea's lead down to two before the Mountaineers went on a 12-2 run to take a double digit lead at the end of the first quarter, 21-9. To start the second quarter, Berea scored the first 10 points, extending the lead out to 31-9 and holding Saint Mary of the Woods College scoreless for nearly five minutes. The Mountaineers used 61 percent shooting from the field, as well as holding the Pomeroys to 12% from the court to take a 50-21 lead at halftime. The team was led in scoring in the first half by Jaime Roberts and Anna Loveless, who each had 12, along with 10 points each from Williams and Kelsey Tippitt. Zacchea Small and Loveless led the team with rebounds in the half, with 8 and 7, respectively.

The hot shooting continued for Berea as back-to-back three point baskets by Roberts and Bethanie Williams pushed the Mountaineers' advantage out to 33 points with 7:13 left in the third quarter. Kiley Barnard's lay-up with 45 seconds left in the third quarter gave the team 75 points on the scoreboard and helped the team take a 31 point lead heading into the final quarter. Berea's strong defense carried over to the fourth quarter as the team's lead reached 38 points with 4:54 left in the game, off of a Bethanie Williams lay-up. Loveless' jump shot with 1:33 remaining gave the team a season high 98 points and helped lead the Mountaineers to a 34 point victory, 98-64. Berea shot 57% from the field, including 60% from behind the arc, while holding the Pomeroys to just 30% shooting in the second half. Bethanie Williams led the scoring for the second half for Berea with 12, giving her a total of 14 points for the game. Joining Bethanie Williams in double digit scoring were the game high leaders, Loveless and Roberts, with 21 each (season-highs for both), Adriana Williams with 14 points and Tippitt with a career-high 16 points. Loveless also led the team with a season-high 13 rebounds.

Berea's next action will occur on Thursday, January 21st as they travel to Circleville, OH to take on Ohio Christian University. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
