
Berea, KY- As the bid day inches closer and closer, the women's basketball team, ranked #3 in USCAA Division I, returned to the court this evening to pad their resume. Tonight's match-up, scheduled as the Green Game for Berea College's green initiative, was against USCAA Division II opponent, the #10 University of Cincinnati-Clermont Cougars.
The Mountaineers came out motivated, after seeing the front end of a pair of free throws fall through by UC-Clermont, the team scored the next 14 points, seven of which came from Kiley Barnard. Jaime Roberts three point basket at the 2:46 mark in the first quarter kept Berea's lead in double digits, making the score 19-7. The Mountaineers ended the quarter leading the Cougars 22-12.
The second quarter started with Kelsey Tippitt scoring Berea's first five points. Soon after the Cougars went on a 8-2 run that brought them within four points. Berea stole the momentum back and scored five straight points that gave them a 34-25 point lead. Bethanie Williams hit a three point shot to close the half and Berea headed to the locker room with a 40-32 lead.
The Mountaineers came out with even more fire in the second half and went on a quick 13-2 run that pushed their lead out to 19. With 3:57 left in the quarter Barnard showed off her passing skills with a assist to senior Anna Loveless. Adriana Williams shot a perfect 4-4 from the field in the 3rd quarter and also recorded 3 blocks. By the end of the 3rd, Berea held a comfortable 63-45 point lead.
The win moves the team to 14-8 on the season. The team looks to continue to add to their vita as they travel to Grayson, KY to compete against the Knights of Kentucky Christian University. The Mountaineers faced them this past Tuesday at the Seabury Center Arena, where they defeated the Knights, 59-46. Action is scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM.
