Berea, Ky. – Berea College women's basketball fell to Midway University 75-69 in overtime Tuesday night at the Seabury Center.
The Mountaineers (2-2) were led by sophomore guard Kiley Barnard who tied for a team-high 20 points to go along with her six boards, three assists and two steals. Freshman guard Kristen Barnes and sophomore guard Bethanie Williams combined for 26 points off the bench for the home team while freshman guard Bri Lanham also tallied double-digit points, scoring 11 while also grabbing eight boards for the home team. Freshman forward Nakeisha Greene finished the game with a team high 11 rebounds.
The first quarter was closely contested for the Mountaineers, who shot 8-of-17 and nailed three of their seven attempts from behind the arc to take a 19-15 lead into the start of the second quarter. The offensive efficiency continued for Berea going into the half, as the Mountaineers hit 7-of-15 from the floor to extend the lead to 37-30 over the Eagles into halftime.
The Mountaineers' struggled after the break, making only four of their 22 attempts from the floor and were outscored in the third frame 19-11 to give Midway the 49-48 advantaged going into the final stanza.
Late-game heroics kept Berea in the contest, as Barnard banked a jumper from inside the paint with just three seconds left to tie the game at 66 apiece to force overtime. Despite solid fourth-quarter play, Berea was unable to capitalize as it was outscored 9-3 in overtime to drop third game of the season.
Berea will welcome Marygrove College to the Seabury Center for action on the Roland Wierwille Court. Tip-off is schedule for this Saturday, November 26th at 6:00 p.m. ET.
