Midway, KY - The Women's soccer team traveled up I75 this weekend to defeat former KIAC rival Midway College.
Midway defeated Berea in both of their meetings last year. This year, the Mountaineers added nine new freshman to the roster and looked like a different team. Berea was able to shut out Midway 5-0 on the road, increasing their record for the season to 2-0-0.
Berea controlled the game from the time it started- scoring four of their five goals in the first half. The first goal came at 38:13 and was scored by freshman, Sohara Perez. Junior, Jacquie Zimmerman would score the next goal with 13:29 remaining in the first half. The final two goals scored by Berea in the half were made by junior Stevie Reidley. On her first goal, Reidley broke through the defense to find the back of the net. Her second goal would come off a corner kick that was assisted by sophomore, Maci New.
The only goal of the second half would come from a PK made by sophomore, Caitlin Taulbee.
The Mountaineers seemed to control this game on their side- shooting the ball 32 times compared to the four shots attempted by Midway. Leading the Mountaineers in shots was Sohara Perez with seven followed by Taulbee and Zimmerman who each had five.
Berea will be in action again on September 9th when they travel to Richmond, IN to face NCAA Division III Earlham College. The Mountaineers next home game will be on September 16th against Mount St. Joseph's.
