Berea, KY - The Berea College women's soccer team played at home this evening against the Kentucky Christian Knights. The women were able to get the home win and increase their record to 6-5-0.
Both teams came out ready to play but Berea was able to strike first when Sohara Perez found Stevie Riedley open with 28:03 remaining in the first half. Riedley was able to put one in and get Berea on the board first. The last five minutes of the first half got very exciting with three goals being scored. The first goal came when Riedley was able to find the back of the net for the second time of the night, this time grabbing the assist was Jacquie Zimmerman. Shortly after (1:56), Sohara Perez scored on an assist by Riedley making the score 3-0, Berea. Kentucky Christian's Abby Clay put the Knights on the board (1:09) almost immediately after Perez's Goal.
In the second half Berea's Jacquie Zimmerman found herself in perfect position during a corner and was able to head the ball in for the goal- putting Berea up 4-1. That would be the last goal scored in the game and secured the win for Berea.
Berea was able to put up 23 shots compared to the 8 that the Knights had. The Knight's goalie picked up 9 saves on the evening.
The Mountaineers will be on the road tomorrow in Knoxville as they take on Johnson University. The game is set to start at 6:00 PM.
