Berea, KY - The women's soccer team opened the 2016-17 season at home against the Asbury Eagles. The Mountaineers couldn't stop the aggressive offense of the Eagles and fell short 4-1 in their season opener.
Asbury struck quick with a goal 4:19 into the first half of the game. The Eagle's found the back of the net two more times within the next 13 minutes. The Mountaineers struck back with senior Jacquie Zimmerman scoring off a penalty kick with 1:18 left in the half. At halftime the Mountaineers found themselves trailing 3-1.
The Eagles offense controlled most of the second half, and with 9:56 left the Eagles scored the last goal of the game, giving them the 4-1 win over the Mountaineers.
The Mountaineers took 9 shots with 3 on goal compared to Asbury's 23 shots with 7 on goal.
The Mountaineers will be back in action at home on Sunday, September 4th at 1:00PM against the Quakers of Earlham College.
