Women's Soccer Drops Opening Game of Soccer Doubleheader Against Huntingdon

Berea, KY- The women's soccer team opened a USA South doubleheader with the men's soccer team this afternoon at the Berea College Sports Complex. The conference action saw the Mountaineers take on divisional opponent, the Huntingdon College Hawks to begin the afternoon.

The first shot of the game went into the back of the net for the visitors as the Hawks took a quick 1-0 lead at the 3:37 mark. Berea's offense continued to search for its rhythm as Huntingdon added another goal to its lead in the seventh minute to take a 2-0 advantage. The scoreboard read 3-0 in favor of the Hawks as the halftime buzzer sounded to send the teams to the benches.

The start of the second half saw the Mountaineers' offense come to life as Sohara Perez took a shot which went high. The offense of Huntingdon kept attacking but the combination of the strong play of the defense and the tough play of goalkeeper Amber Follin kept the Hawks out of the net in the second half. The comeback attempt which included a corner kick from Madilyn Hord to go along with a shot from Hord and a second shot from Perez fell short as Berea fell by a final score of 3-0. Perez took two shots in the game, one of which was on goal while Hord's added one shot on goal. Follin finished with nine saves on 12 shots on goal.

A three-game home stand for the Mountaineers ends on Tuesday when the team hosts Spalding University. First touch for the game under the lights at the Berea College Sports Complex is scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM.
