Berea, KY- Along with the men's soccer team, the women's soccer team took part in a USA South doubleheader at the Berea College Sports Complex. The women's team opened the day up, welcoming the Scots of Covenant College to the field.
The offense for the Mountaineers had a rough time getting going as the offensive attack for Berea could not produce scoring opportunities. The scoreboard saw a change in the 12th minute as Covenant scored the first goal of the game to lead 1-0. The score soon changed to a 2-0 advantage for the Scots as they scored another goal. As the offensive struggles continued for the Mountaineers, Covenant saw themselves go into halftime with a 3-0 lead.
The offensive issues were resolved in the second half as seven minutes into the second half, Berea was able to force a corner kick. Sohara Perez sent a shot to the net which was saved by the opposing goalkeeper as the Mountaineers looked to cut into the lead. Berea came up short of a goal on two shots from Stacey Keruwa, two corner kicks from Sierra Massucco and a shot from Glendy Pineda in an offensive assault over a two minute span. The home Mountaineers were unable to overcome the deficit, falling by a final score of 4-0.
Perez and Keruwa led the team in shots with two each while Pineda finished with one shot. Amber Follin completed the game in the net for the Blue Crew, finish with 11 saves on 15 shots on goal.
