Berea, KY- Following the strong play to end the 2016 Fall season, Berea's Women edged past University of Pikeville to pick up their 3rd consecutive win and first of the 2017 season. University of Pikeville only having 4 women available started down the matchup down 0-3, leaving Berea to find 2 wins to pull the contest out.
In doubles action, Taylor Moyers and Trinity Goodman at the number one spot lost at the top spot with a 8-4 scoreline. The games were well contested but the Pikeville ladies always found a way to win the big points to close out that match. In the first time pairing of Alicia Bedolla and Erin Goodpaster at number 2 battled long and hard but eventually fell to Pikeville with a 8-5 scoreline. This brought Pikeville right back into the matchup down 2-3 going into the last 4 singles match.
At number 1 Taylor Moyers in her first match back played well but was outplayed by Marcarena of Pikeville 6-0, 6-2. This tied Berea and Pikeville at 3 wins a piece. Trinity Goodman then stepped up in a huge way to come from a set down to battle hard at the number 2 spot to bring Berea to a 4-3 lead with a 1-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-7) win. Pikeville rebounded at the number 3 spot where Ashley Ferrell fell to Schroers 6-1, 7-6. In the last match of the day seeing Berea and University of Pikeville tied at 4 wins a piece, Alicia Bedolla like Goodman pulled out a huge come from behind win in thrilling fashion with a 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (12-10) win. That win by Bedolla allowed Berea's Women to claim overall victory by a 5-4 margin.
Berea's Women head to Union College on Saturday, March 25th for their next match.
