Berea drops opener to Transylvania in three sets

Berea, Ky. - Opening up the 2015-16 season the Berea College women's volleyball team struggled in their home opener against Transylvania University losing at home in 3 straight sets on Tuesday evening.

After losing the first set 25-11 the Mountaineers found themselves in a hole they couldn't dig themselves out of and lost the next two sets 25-12 and 25-10.

Offensively the Blue Crew was led by senior #18 Nicole Baker racking up 7 kills followed by #5 Simon Brown who had a total of 4. The defense was led by Senior #14 Megan Keller with 9 digs followed by Sophomore #16 Grace Callow who totaled 7.

"This match was our first time playing someone other than ourselves so we are still trying to figure things out, who goers where and who works best with who. It was a difficult match because we just beat ourselves and first match jitters really got the best of us. Now we just have to get back at it and get ready for the tournament this weekend," said first year Head Coach Sonya Petroski.

The Mountaineers look to fix some things this coming weekend when they travel to Westerville, OH to play in the Otterbein Tournament. The Mountaineers will open up on Friday, September 4th against Otterbein.
