Berea Goes 3-1 at Quaker Classic Hosted by Earlham

Richmond, Ind. – The Berea Volleyball Mountaineers traveled to Earlham College this weekend who hosted this year's 2015 Quaker Classic. Berea took their first win of the season against Earlham in a 3-0 match-up, Wilmington with a final score of 3-1, and Concordia-Chicago with a 3-2 win. The Lady Mountaineers gave it their best against Pikeville with a 3-1 loss.

Berea's first match of the tournament was against Earlham College. Berea had a strong start and began their winning streak with a 25-10 win on the first set. Followed by a close 31-29 and a 25-23 win on the second and third frames. The Lady Mountaineers brought their winning momentum into their second match of the day against University of Pikeville Bears by taking the first set 25-15. However Berea struggled to find their rhythm and lost the following three sets.

At the start of day two of the tournament, Berea went against Ohio's Wilmington College and won the first set 25-18. The Mountaineers dropped the second set but recuperated afterwards with a 20-25 and 19-25 win. The 3-1 win marked Berea's second victory and put the Mountaineers 2-1 in tournament play. The second and last match of the day was up against Concordia University Chicago. Berea took the first two sets 25-21, 25-15, and they took the lead on the third set when Concordia came back to take the lead winning the next two sets 25-17 and 28-26. Both teams had fight in them going into the fifth set, but Berea persevered and came on top with a 13-15 win.

In relation to the Lady Mountaineers successful victories this weekend, Head Coach Sonya Petroski had this to say: "It was like we were a brand new team this weekend." Coach Petroski emphasized how hard the team had been training physically and mentally and how all the hard work showed this weekend. "We found a rhythm and I'm excited to see how we do going into the heart of our season." 

Lead mentions goes out to Kyra Robinson who led the Mountaineers with hitting .279% and 37 kills. Alaina Fox and LeAnna Luney who both put up 13 blocks. Megan Keller dished up 113 assists with Bailie Parker; giving 57 total digs and 7 service aces during the weekend. 

Berea now sits 3-7 overall and heads to UC-Clermont for a USCAA match on Tuesday the 15th.
