Berea Volleyball Increases Win Streak to Four Defeating MSJ 3-2

Berea, KY - The Berea Women's Volleyball team had the fans on their feet this evening when they defeated Mount St. Joseph in five sets 22-25, 25-15, 23-25, 26-24 and 15-9.

Mount St. Joseph threw down 52 kills compared to the 44 that Berea had but the Mountaineer defense stepped up big.  The Mountaineers had 15.5 team blocks and 78 digs while MSJ had 6.5 and 71.  Leading the way for the Berea defense was Bailie Parker with a very impressive 32 digs.  Alaina Fox and Kyra Robinson lead the team in blocks and block assists with a total of 16 between the both of them.

In the fourth set the Mountaineers were down 21-24 and it looked like MSJ was going to walk away with the win but Berea was able to score five straight points and take the set 26-24 forcing a fifth set.  In the fifth set Berea came out strong and jumped to the lead.  Mount St. Joseph clawed their way back but it wasn't enough and the Mountaineers were able to hold on for the win.

"We really pushed hard in to get the fifth set, it would have been very easy to give up and take the loss and go down in four but we really wanted it and were able to come back and get the win," said Head Coach Sonya Petroski.  "Hopefully this will carry over into the tournament this weekend!"

Berea is now on a four game winning streak and will have a big weekend ahead of them as they host the USCAA North vs. South Battlefield Classic.  Berea will begin play on Friday, September 25 when they take on Johnson & Wales (NC).  There will be a lot of volleyball going on in Seabury this weekend so come out and support you Berea College Women's Volleyball team!
