Coming off a win against the University of Cincinnati-Clermont, Berea took back to the court this evening to take on the Johnson University Royals to try to continue their winning streak.
The Mountaineers breezed through the first set thanks in part to four kills from sophomore Simone Brown and took the set 25-9. Johnson University made the second set interesting thanks to Berea's errors and strong play but the Blue Crew perserved through the adversity and won the second set 26-24.
Berea returned back to form they had in the first set and with some strong kills and great defense, finished the third set with a 25-11 win and moved their winning streak to two games.
The Mountaineers were led in kills by senior Nicole Baker with seven. Senior Megan Keller led the team in assists with 14 for the second straight game. The team leader in digs for the second straight game was freshman Bailie Parker with 11.
The team came into this game looking to improve upon the fundamentals the coaches have instilled all season as they make their run to a USCAA National Championship, according to head coach Sonya Petroski. "We told the team not to overlook Johnson University but use this match to work on skills and correct the errors while playing a solid match as a team as we prepare to make a championship run."
With the win, Berea moves to 13-10 on the season. The team gets a week break before they return to the court on October 20th when they travel to Midway, KY to take on Midway College. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM.
