Volleyball Extends Winning Streak to Four

Midway/Berea, KY- The Mountaineers defeated Midway on the road 3-1.  The next day the Mountaineers were able to sweep Alice Lloyd College 3-0 at home. This improves the Mountaineers win streak to four as the USCAA National Championship approaches.

Against Midway the Mountaineers got off to a slow start and dropped the first match 16-25. Things started to turn around as they were able to squeeze out a close 25-22 win in their second match. Berea continued to play hard and was able to win the next two matches 25-21 and 25-25.  With those wins Berea defeated the Eagles 3-1.  Claire Muller lead the team in assists with 18, Grace Callow and Nicole Baker lead the team in kills with 8 apiece.  Alaina Fox played a great game leading the Mountaineers in digs with 11 and also picked up 3 block assists.  

The next day Berea stayed at home to take on Alice Lloyd.  Berea started off the match quick, getting out to a 6-1 lead but the Eagles would come back and tie the first set at 6-6. The set looked like it was going to be close as each team exchanged the next few points back to back, but the Mountaineers took over the set and closed out strong as they won the first set 25-9. 

After figuring out Alice Lloyd from the first set, Berea put their foot to the pedal in the second and third set as they won the sets 25-6 and 25-11 respectively.

The Blue Crew were led in kills by sophomore Grace Callow and seniors Kyra Robinson and Nicole Baker with seven each. The assist leader for the Mountaineers was sophomore Claire Mueller with 20. Junior Shelby Brewer led the team in digs with 10.

Head coach Sonya Petroski is happy with how the match worked out for the team. "This was a good, fun match for us and helped us to take some momentum into this weekend's tri-match against challenging opponents in Centre College and Hendrix College in Danville."

Berea returns to the road this weekend with a record of 15-10 as they travel to Danville, KY to compete in a tri-match against Hendrix College and Centre College. Their matches are scheduled for 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM, respectively.
