Berea, Ky. – The Berea women's volleyball team dropped back-to-back matches to kick-off its season Saturday afternoon by final scores of 0-3 to both Spalding University and Centre College at the Seabury Center.
In the first match for the Mountaineers, senior Simone Brown finished with a game-high five blocks for the Mountaineers. Sophomore Bailie Parker added a game-high 19 digs and four assists while freshman Kristin Barnes tallied 16 digs. Barnes, along with Brown, led the team in kills for the match with five each. Junior Claire Mueller led the team in assists with 12.
Senior Katelyn Cosgrove recorded a game-high 24 assists as well as a team high 16 digs for the visiting Golden Eagles while seniors Jessica Diehl and Victoria Heitzman tied for a game-high nine kills.
The Mountaineers were able to keep the first two sets within arm's reach, dropping the first 25-17 and the second 25-20 before ultimately losing the third and final set 25-12 to the Golden Eagles.
In the second match of the afternoon, junior Grace Callow recorded a game-high nine kills for the Mountaineers while Parker tallied 24 digs to go along with her five assists. Mueller led Berea in assists with eight while finishing with a game-high three service aces.
Sophomore Morgan Babey led the Colonels in digs with 19 while senior Beth Cecil added another 16 to go along with her team-high seven kills for the visitors.
Berea's next match is this Tuesday, September 6th when they host the Eagles of Asbury University at 7:00 p.m. at the Seabury Center.
