Berea, KY- The volleyball team returned to the court this evening as they took on the visiting Asbury University Eagles. The team took the playing surface in search of their first early season victory.
After falling in the first set 25-13, the Mountaineers came out looking to clinch the second set. Asbury looked like they were going to walk away with the set leading 22-13 before Berea scored eight straight points to bring the score to 22-21. The momentum would not continue as the Eagles scored the next three points to win the second set 25-21.
Asbury went on to close out the match with a 25-16 win in the third and final set and walked out of the Seabury Center with the win. Shelby Brewer led the way offensively for the Mountaineers, finishing the game with six kills while Claire Mueller led the team in assists with 20. Defensively, Bailie Parker took the lead with 16 digs and Isabelle Haverty added to the defensive effort with four total blocks (one solo, three assisted).
Berea will return to the court as they travel for the first time this season, taking a short trip to Lexington, KY to take on Transylvania University. The match against the Pioneers is scheduled tomorrow, September 7th with first serve set for 7:00 PM.
