Batavia, OH- After taking a trip south to Knoxville, TN and heading home with a 3-2 win against Johnson University, the volleyball team continued their road play up north. The team visited the University of Cincinnati-Clermont, hoping to move their winning streak to two games.
The matchup between the teams started out as a close contest but Berea fell in the opening 25-20. The second set saw a similar tone as the first as the teams played a tough set, which ended in favor of Clermont, 26-24.
Facing a 2-0 hole, the Mountaineers came out swinging in the third set of the match. Berea cut into the deficit though, winning the third by a score of 25-18. With the team trying to extend the game to a fifth set, the momentum stayed on the side of the Mountaineers. Using 11 kills in the set, Berea forced a final and deciding set with a winning score of 25-13.
The strong offensive and defensive play the Mountaineers showed over the last two sets continued in the fifth, as the team recorded five kills and no attack errors, winning three straight sets to walk out of Batavia, OH with a 3-2 win with a final set score of 15-6. Two players for Berea finished with double figure kills, led by Simone Brown with 11 and Grace Callow with 10. Claire Mueller led the way in assists with 32. The defensive effort was led by Bailie Parker, who finished the match with 37 digs. Aiding the defense was Isabelle Haverty, who finished with six blocks total (two block solos and four block assists).
The team returns to the road as they travel up I-64 to Frankfort, KY to take on Kentucky State University. The match is scheduled for Friday, October 28th, with first serve to begin at 7:00 PM.
