LaGrange, GA. – The Berea women's volleyball team traveled to LaGrange, GA Saturday to participate in a conference tri-match. The Mountaineers faced conference opponents, LaGrange College and Agnes Scott. Berea fell in both games, 3-1 and 3-0, on the day.

The Mountaineers started the day against host, Panthers and would beat the Mountaineers in four sets. The first set was strongly influenced by the Panthers and LaGrange took the first set 25-13. However, Berea responded with a very competitive second set, but again fell 25-20. The third set, Berea changed the game plan and came out aggressive. The Mountaineers pushed the Panthers back onto their heels and stole the third set 25-18. Hoping to continue the winning strategy, Berea again came out strong in the fourth set, but fizzled out to eventual defeat 25-15.

Kristin Barnes and Carolina Robles led the stat lines for the Mountaineers. Barnes finished with 11 kills and 12 digs, while Robles also had 11 kills, 13 assists and another 12 digs. Hannah Headrick adding 10 kills and 10 digs with Jonesy McGregor tacking on 15 assists.  

The next contest for the Mountaineers featured another conference opponent the Agnes Scott Scotties. Berea was in the hunt for all three sets. The first set was a fairly close contest up until the final points. The Scotties found a run and edged Berea 25-20. The second set seemed like déjà vu for the Mountaineers and the Scotties took the set 25-19. During the third, the score was close throughout, but the Scotties pulled away with a narrow victorious margin of 25-23.

Robles continued her offensive day with nine kills and 10 assists. Katherine Gonterman finished with eight kills and five digs, while Barnes tallied seven kills and 13 digs. McGregor had 11 assists and Headrick added another 10 digs for the Mountaineers.

Berea will take the court again at 7:00 pm, Tuesday, October 9 on the road at West Virginia State.
