Women's Cross Country Finish 3rd at Centre Invitational

Danville, KY – The Berea College Women's Cross Country team traveled to Danville, KY to compete at the Centre College Invitational this past weekend.   The Mountaineers finished 3rd out of the 8 competing teams behind host and team champion Centre College and Asbury.  They finished ahead of Spalding, USMMA, Georgetown (KY), Pikeville and Kentucky State.

Leading the way again for the Mountaineers on a very tough hilly course was freshman Dove DeNigris in 5th place (20:51).  Senior Gabrielle Sawyer was in close pursuit finishing 10th (21:08).  Rounding out the top 5 for Berea was Gabriella Sabino in 17th (21:31), Mercy Kershner in 24th (21:56) and Jenna Hughes in 31st (22:18).

Other finishers for Berea College were Olamide Adejuma in 40th (23:25), Megan Hale in 45th (24:12), Sydney Kyker in 56th (25:56), Asia Foster in 57th (26:16) and Brena Griffin in 65th (30:29).

"This was a very impressive performance by these ladies, they showed up on a very tough course after a hard week of training and ran almost 5 minutes faster team time than a year ago on the same course which is a very significant improvement on that course.  This should be an exciting week as we lead into our home meet this weekend," stated head coach Shawn Jakubowski.

The Mountaineers will be at home next Saturday on September 19 for the Berea College Invitational.  The women will start at 10:00 am and the men will start at 11:00 am down on Alumni Fields.  Come out and support these teams at their only home event of the season!
