Mountaineers Finish 10th of 37 at the Jenna Strong Fall Classic

Wilmington, OH - The Berea College Women's cross country team traveled to Wilmington College to compete at the JennaStrong Fall Classic.  The race featured 343 runners that represented thirty-seven teams.  The Mountaineers finished with 309 points which landed them 10th place out of the 37 teams in the meet.

Leading the way for the Mountaineers once again was freshman Dove DeNigris.  Dove finished in 25th place with a new personal best time of 19:37.  Senior Mercy Kershner stepped up and ran a great race to finish 44th and set a new season best time of 19:52.  Gabriella Sabino was back in the lineup for the Mountaineers after having to sit out at the Greater Louisville Classic due to illness.  Sabino was able to pick up right where she left off and also ran a season best time of 20:23, good enough for a 73rd place finish.  Finishing 91st for Berea was Erin Gonterman with a time of 20:43.  Rounding out the scorers was Senior Gabrielle Sawyer in 123rd with a time of 21:04.  

Other finishers for the Mountaineers were Jenna Hughes in 144th (21:19), Olamide Adejuma in 194 (22:05), Megan Hale in 222nd (22:28) and Brena Griffin in 322nd (27:57).  

Berea finished with a very impressive 1:41:42 team time and a team average of 20:20.  The overall team winner was Miami (Ohio) with 102 points.  

"The women executed the race plan perfectly and really tested themselves today" said Head Coach Shawn Jakubowski.  "They got out in great position early and did a great job working up through the field. We had several personal records and season bests today and were able to run the fastest team time of the year.  This meet was a good confidence booster for these ladies leading into the Sandshark invitational this coming weekend."
