Montgomery, Ala. – In the opening round of the USA South Conference women's soccer tournament, #5 Berea was dealt #4 Huntingdon College and the Mountaineers had to make the long trek to Georgia. Three goals in the second half from the Hawks lifted Huntingdon over Berea, 4-0, ending the Mountaineers' season. Berea goalie Jade Fulkerson had a career high 13 saves for the Mountaineers
The first half remained close as Huntingdon's midfielder Alexis Louk scored the only goal of the half at the 16:15 minute mark. Despite the lone goal, Huntingdon had full offensive control taking 13 shots to Berea's two over the 45 minute span.
The second half of the match was all Huntingdon. At 62:10, Elena Guy was the first Hawk to put the ball in the back of the net in the second. Huntingdon would not score again until an Erika Gebhard shot sailed past Fulkerson at 82:54. Four minutes later, Guy recorded her second goal of the contest to bring the score to 4-0 and give the Hawks the victory.
The Hawks outshot the Mountaineers 27-5 and had a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Berea concludes the season 10-8 overall and 3-5 in USA South action. It is the Mountaineers' first season over .500 since 2015.
