Danville, KY – On Saturday, the Mountaineers competed in the 53rd annual Centre College Invitational. Berea finished 5th out of 10 highly competitive teams from the area.
Starting off with the sprinting events, freshman Jada Harper ran in the 100 meter dash where she placed 3rd, and ran a time of 13.67. In the 200 meter dash, junior Kaylee Robinson won with her time of 26.84. Following Robinson, Jada Harper earned 2nd place with a time of 28.01. Freshman Leta Heigley finished 9th with a time of 29.08, freshman Mildred Goins followed in 16th place with a time of 29.90, and Allie Silas in 27th place with a time of 32.95. In the 400 meter dash, Robinson ran a 1:00.25 and placed 2nd. Heighley followed close behind and ended in 4th place with a time of 1:03.78. In the 100 meter hurdles sophomore Destinee Henry placed 5th with a time of 17.80. Mildred Goins placed 11th and ran a time of 19.01. Senior Kearstin Tingle followed in 12th place with a time of 19.54. Destinee Henry also competed in the 400 meter hurdles, placing 2nd with a time of 1:11.80. Tingle also ran, and placed in 8th with a time of 1:20.04.
In the distance events, junior Jenna Hughes competed in the 800 meter dash, where she placed 16th with a time of 2:43. Freshman Katie Roach also ran and placed 30th with a time of 3:07. Hughes also competed in the 1500 meter run where she placed 9th and ran in a time of 5:33. Junior Hayley Clark placed 11th with a time of 5:40. Other finishers in the 1500 meter dash include junior Caitlyn Roberts (14th, 5:49), freshman Bethany Bigler (17th, 5:58), junior Brittany Ortiz-Perez (19th, 6:07), and Katie Roach (20th, 6:20). In the 5000 meter race, junior Jamie Welch placed 2nd with a time of 20:09. Following Welch, junior Ivanna Sabino placed 8th with a time of 21:22. In the 10,000 meter run senior Dove DeNigris finished in 2nd and ran a total time of 40:17. Sophomore Rachel Melstead followed in 5th, and ran a time of 43:34.
In the field events starting off was the long jump. Leta Heigley finished in 11th place with a jump of 4.56 meters. Destinee Henry followed in 12th place from her jump of 4.50 meters. Mildred Goins also jumped a distance of 4.47 meters, earning her 14th place. Goins competed in the triple jump as well, where she finished in 7th place with a jump of 9.71 meters. In the shot-put, junior Maya Riddles threw a distance of 9.50 meters that earned her 14th place. Riddles also placed 14th in the hammer throw with a distance of 33.29 meters. In javelin Riddles threw 16.80 meters and placed 19th.
The Mountaineers are back in action next week at Depauw University for the Depauw Invitational.
