Louisville, KY.- The Mountaineers travelled to Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville last Saturday to compete in the Greater Louisville Classic. Berea competed in the blue race and finished in 25th place with a team average of 20:16 for the 5K race.
Sophomore Abigail Schlenker was the first Mountaineer to finish, crossing the line in 57th place with a time of 19:27. Senior Dove DeNigris was the second Berea runner to cross the line, finishing in a time of 19:57 with Junior Jamie Welch finishing close behind in 20:03. Rounding out the scoring for the Mountaineers was freshman Mary Beth Mellhuish who finished in 20:42 and Sophomore Rachel Melstead in 21:12. The 6th and 7th Berea runners to finish included freshman Leta Heigley crossing the line in 21:19 and Junior Caitlyn Roberts in 21:44.
Next up for the Mountaineers is the Berry College Invitational, which will also serve as the site for the South/Southeast Regional Championships in November. The Berry College Invitational will be contested on October 13th in Rome Georgia.
