Volleyball Sweeps Alice Lloyd

Box Score

Sometimes winning isn't pretty and that was certainly the case tonight in Seabury Gymnasium as the #8 ranked (USCAA Coaches Poll) Mountaineers hosted the Alice Lloyd College Eagles.  Many of elements of the Mountaineer attack seemed sluggish, while other elements were razor sharp as the Mountaineers won the first set 25-20.

The second set was much different with the Blue Crew playing with an significant increase in energy and it showed on the scoreboard as they coasted to a 25-16 victory.  The third set was nearly a carbon copy of the first, as again the Mountaineers struggled to keep the ball in the court, having to fight their way back from a five point deficit before pulling out 25-22 set and match win.

"We certainly were less than sharp tonight, and that is all on me as a coach," stated BC Head Coach Paul Cantrell.  "If we want to make the USCAA National Championships, we have to play better on Thursday."

Offensively for the Mountaineers, Nicole Baker and Kaitlynne Smith both had big nights each knocking down eight kills, and recording a .538 and .429 hitting percentage respectively.  Kyra Robinson also had a big night registering seven kills on just 13 swings and swatting down four blocks.  Grace Callow scooped up nine Eagle kill attempts to lead the team.

The Mountaineers will be back in action when they travel down to Knoxville on Thursday for a match with Johnson University at 6:00 pm.
