BC women's soccer downs Johnson 5-4 for first win of season.
Only days after Berea College Women's Soccer scored their first goal of the season, they unleashed several games of pent-upped offensive aggression and registered twelve shots and scored five goals to capture the program's first win of the 2014 season. Berea College (1-4) made the most of their road trip down I-75 to take on Johnson University in Knoxville, TN and gained that elusive first win of 2014.
It was the Jaquie Zimmerman (SO/Monroe, NC) and Caitlin Taulbee (FR/Mt. Sterling, KY) show tonight for the Blue Crew as the tandem accounted for two goals and assisted each other on one of the other's goals. The first goal of the game was made by Zimmerman from Taulbee at the 23:48 mark. Zimmerman connected again some six minutes later with a low shot to the corner. Taulbee took over the scoring at that point as she connected at 33:56 mark, to wrap scoring for Berea in the first half; then scored her second goal, this one off a pass from Zimmerman 10 minutes into the 2nd half. Mary Esther States (SR/Carrollton, KY) notched her first goal of the year in the 85th minute to wrap the scoring for Berea and secure the team's first win of 2014.
The Mountaineers next game will be on September 21 in Louisville, KY against NCAA Division III, Spalding University.
